READY FOR COOLER WEATHER? HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO GET YOUR HOME FIT FOR FALL

Though we’re still in summer, the first frost is a little more than one month away. Historically, the mercury dips below freezing in Northern Colorado between October 1 and October 10, but the first frost may occur as early as September 15. So, enjoy our beautiful fall weather, but it’s not too soon to start preparing for the change in seasons.

Here are some tips for making sure you and your home are ready for colder weather:

• Get heating system serviced

• Evaluate all seals on windows and doors and replace as needed

• Inspect roofing for damage

• Clean gutters and downspouts

• Remove lint from dryer exhaust

• Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors

• Flush hot water heater and remove sediment

• Clean carpets

• Clean garbage disposal and dishwasher filter

• Oil garage door tracks

• Replace batteries in smoke detectors

• Check fire extinguisher to ensure it’s still good

• Mow the lawn one final time and fertilize with a slow-release winterizing product
